morning gale

(i)

sunlight prises-open clouds

to fan muted rays along

the shores of uist

a thin gilded band

separating blue-grey sea

from veiled hues of land above

(ii)

gale-driven aerosol colossus

on hydro-headed sou’ sou’westerly wings

engulfs the sky in its bone-soaking embrace

(iii)

storm-impellled rain pellets

meld the very sounds

of which the earth is made

(iv)

steel crawls across the fury of the Sound

reduced from sprinting arrogance

by air alone
