heat and pressure

mould and fold

extrude

and

intrude

.

to erupt

and tumble

in trickle-treacle lava

.

down ancient slopes

where cousins

will stand

.

alone

.

and

in

circles

.

so time will crack

.

and tear

and wash

along a river

.

to be baptised by sea

that rolls and polishes

the un-gemmed

.

to decorate a wall

with one bright white

gleam of quartz

.

within

the gloom of

gneiss
