time’s passing…

the sextet play a set of jigs

each bar rewinding time

until mid-nineteenth century

when box falls off the line

.

the quintet play their reels

back four hundred more

then fiddle flips into the night

leaving us with four

.

the quartet play a mournful tune

into twelfth century

when in a flash guitar departs

and we are left with three

.

the trio play more sets of reels

millennia just flew

before in turn the harp dissolves

thus leaving us with two

.

the duo mourn the passing

of two-thirds of this great band

before the pipes evaporate

and flute alone still stands
